We're approaching the finish line but we're not there yet so stay focused. Here's what's going on and coming up...
Ceramics 1= Realistic food...and thinking about the final exam project which will also make you think of your favorite food and the ideal way and place to eat it...
Ceramics 2= finishing historical projects and writing the ESSAY then finishing your celebrity coffee sets...
final exam project will be introduced next week
Art 2= we're going to start working on the final exam project so we know we get it done and then we'll work on the next project (which may or may not involved going outside ;) )
Painting= we're working on portraits and I may have to hurry you a bit on this so we can fit another (or 2) project in before the last day! You're all doing great work and I want you explore lots more stuff .... I am going to jam as much as I can before I release you to the world ;)

Significant Objects
Painting people! I just gave you a sketchbook assignment but I've already decided on the next so you can start thinking about it...
Find your "SIGNIFICANT OBJECT" and draw it...draw it with importance. This means you should find something that is important to you. It should not be a person (although those are the most important things, right?) or a place. For this drawing it should be an object...something that may not mean anything to anyone else, it may be worthless or priceless...expensive or free... just some thing that means something to you. I'm thinking about my first teddy bear that still sits on my nightstand 38 years later or the doll arm I found in some gravel.
When you draw it really think about how you want to present it. Is it in bright light and reflecting lots of light? Is it hidden in a lots of shadows? Do you draw it sitting on the shelf you keep it on? In your jewelry box? Or does it sit on a pedestal or in your sock drawer? Give us a sense of it's importance with the background, the light (or the lack thereof), how detailed you draw it, how big, how small, etc....
Take your time and really think about it...

“Look
at the subject as if you have never seen it before. Examine
it from every side. Draw
its outline with your eyes or
in the air with your hands, and
saturate yourself with it.”

New Painting Assignment
It's Self-Portrait Time!
I know what you're thinking....booooo. I get it but this time it's different, kind of, if you want it to be. Your assignment is to do a self-portrait in paint. I am open to how you interpret this but I would like to see you challenge yourself and get experience in painting portraits. Here are some examples to get you thinking...
