New Painting Assignment
It's Self-Portrait Time!
I know what you're thinking....booooo. I get it but this time it's different, kind of, if you want it to be. Your assignment is to do a self-portrait in paint. I am open to how you interpret this but I would like to see you challenge yourself and get experience in painting portraits. Here are some examples to get you thinking...

Congratulations!
Congratulations to
Maya Tajchman
and
Lauren Baldwin
for winning awards in the
Scholastic Art Awards competition!
It is a tough contest so it's quite an honor to win this award!
Art 2 Masterpiece and QOTW
This week's Masterpiece is by one of my favorite artists, Frida Kahlo
Our Quote of the Week is:
“Look
at the subject as if you have never seen it before. Examine
it from every side. Draw
its outline with your eyes or
in the air with your hands, and
saturate yourself with it.”
This week's sketchbook assignment will be due Monday February 4 and it is to draw from observation with value:
"Something from your childhood"

Ceramics 1- Face Jugs
We are making Face Jugs which originally were made by slaves who worked in potteries in South
Carolina in the early 1800’s. Many have been found along the Underground Railroad and they were used to hold molasses, water or other liquids while the owner was living. It's believed that they then were used as grave markers and their scary faces would keep evil spirits away.
