Historically Inspired Essay Outline for Ceramics 2



History Inspired Piece Essay Outline
Your essay must include answers to all of the questions listed below in sentence form and offer additional important information. Make it interesting to read! 
You must also pass in a picture of the original piece.


I.              Introduction:  Briefly introduce your topic. 
            What is the object you chose to research?
            What country is the object from?  What time period?
Why did you choose this piece?

II.            Question 1: Explain what the object looks like.
What is it made of? All clay? Does it have additional materials? What kind of clay/glazes?
Explain the form of the object?  Use vocabulary (geometric/organic, symmetrical/asymmetrical, etc…)
What size is it?  What color/s is it?
Does it have texture?
Does it have a pattern or decoration? Explain.

III.           Question 2:  Purpose
What was the object used for? What purpose did it serve?
How did it fit into everyday life or was it used only for special celebration?


IV.          Question 3:  Artist
Who made this object? Person, group or company? (If you cannot find specific name then write about what kind of people made these pieces, what was the role of the artist in that community at that time?)

When the piece is done answer these questions and include them in your essay!
V.           Conclusion:

Talk about the piece you made in response to the original.

**How does it relate to the original? Is it very similar or did you do a lot to make it different? (Be specific. Write about specific points)***
How did it turn out?  What are you most proud of? What could be improved? What would you have done differently?


Remember this should be in your own words- no plagiarizing!!!

Ceramics 1 Final Exam: Food Specific Serving dishes

There's a long tradition of serving dishes being made for specific food.  Many are made from clay but there are lots in silver, wood and other materials.  Here is an asparagus server to get you thinking
